- Course Structure:
Economics involves the study of two main areas: micro and macro-economics. Micro-economics looks at the decision-making behaviour of companies and consumers and explores how this relates to the supply and demand in markets. Marco-economics is the analysis of a nation's economy as a whole using information such as economic growth, inflation, unemployment, industrial production and cosumption expenditure.
With the increase of business conducted on a global scale, many organisations anticipate an increased need to employ individuals with an expert understanding of national and international economics.
In addition to the underpinning management subjects, the course covers modules in Industrial Economics, European Economy, Economics of Financial Markets, Business Economics and Transition Economics.
You will also develop knowledge and competence in areas such as communication, IT, teamwork, handling of information and critical analysis, which employers identify as being essential for a business professional.
The optional, salaried work placement in year 3 brings a sense of realism and dynamism to your course and is highly regarded by employers as preparation for employment.
- Placement:
An optional salaried work placement is available in year 3. International placements are available in all management courses.
In year 2 or 3, there are opportunities to study with partner institutions in Europe as part of the Erasmus Programme. Students will be taught and assessed in English and also receive foreign language tuition.
- Career Opportunities:
Knowledge of the economic environment in which companies and governments operate is relevant for a wide range of careers in both the private and public sectors. Some graduates will become professional economists in business or government, whilst others will pursue a managerial career in commerce, industry or the public sector.
