  • Course Structure:

    The course provides students with a framework for understanding communication theories and processes in an organisational context. Key research, communication and media-handling skills are developed by taking part in challenging real-world projects from design to delivery and subsequent evaluation. Communication and public relations issues are also analysed from a range of academic and practical perspectives.

    Students are introduced to the concepts and principles of public relations, marketing, advertising, journalism, the media, management, design and information technology. As the course progresses, concepts are studied for their application and influence in relation to the communication objectives of businesses, industry, government groups and non-profit making organisations. Competencies in research, writing, oral presentation techniques and computer-based authoring are developed to a high level, enabling you to compete confidently and effectively for the career opportunities available.

    The 6 week placement gives you the opportunity to gain practical experience in an area of your choice, better equipping you for the working world. Practitioners have the opportunity to feedback into the course to ensure that teaching reflects leading practices in business and industry.

    The course is taught at the Aberdeen Business School, situated on our beautiful parkland Garthdee Campus. The modern purpose built School encompasses state-of-the-art lecture theatres, teaching labs, IT facilities, media centre and TV studio, and a well equipped library, housing an extensive range of learning resources

    Highly vocational, this course provides you with an academic qualification that is attractive to potential employers. Graduates from this course will be accomplished communicators and will be able to use a range of media effectively. These skills can be used across a range of careers in the communications industries in areas such as public relations, advertising, marketing, media, information services, public affairs, and event management, as well as
    managerial careers in commerce, industry or the public sector
