  • Course Structure:

    This unique course has been developed in response to an increasing demand for a broad-based applied social sciences course, and provides the underpinning knowledge and key transferable skills relevant to a variety of ‘people-centred’ occupations.

    The course consists of a variety of modules, providing a diverse curriculum and drawing on a range of disciplines. Year 1 provides an introduction to the main disciplines of Sociology and Psychology. In addition students undertake modules in Political context, Research Skills and Social Ethics. Thereafter, the key subjects of Psychology and Sociology are studied in greater depth, allowing you to acquire specialist knowledge in one specific area or maintain a broad base. You will also undertake modules in areas such as: Counselling; Sports Psychology; Sociology of Crime; Health Psychology; Forensic Psychology; Sociology of Consumer Culture; Art, Culture & Society; Global Terrorism and Body in Society.

    The emphasis throughout the course is on the applied nature of subjects studied and, as a result, you are encouraged to become a reflective, independent learner, identifying and working towards your own learning objectives. The Applied Social Sciences team have an active research body that underpins their applied teaching.

    The course is taught at our purpose-built Faculty of Health and Social Care building, situated on our beautiful parkland Garthdee campus. A multi-million pound Sports Centre, RGU: SPORT, provides first class sports and leisure facilities immediately adjacent to the teaching resources.
