  • Course Structure:

One of the major challenges facing industry and commerce today is maintaining and enhancing a competitive advantage. For many organisations this depends critically on an ability to access, process and communicate information efficiently and securely. Effective use of internet and multimedia technologies is the key to successful use of information. There is a constant industry demand for graduates who have the ability to build robust usable software systems, develop new business-compatible computer applications that use multimedia effectively, and who can create websites that are inspirational, motivational and contribute to a company’s success.
This course will provide you with a comprehensive practical understanding of the latest advancements in computing, web techniques, Java, computer graphics, multimedia and secure internet technologies that are front-ended by usable computer interfaces, gaining the skills and knowledge required to contribute to the fast developing area of multimedia communications. You will develop practical abilities in state-of-the-art desktop and internet software development methods, and learn how to apply these to the solution of real world commercial problems, creating multimedia applications that run on the desktop with appropriate graphical user interfaces, and client and server-side internet applications that support business systems.
An optional 16-week paid placement, at the end of the 2nd year, provides an opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills in the “real world” of business and industry.
This course has a direct entry route to year 3 for applicants who already possess an HND (or similar award) in Computing: Software Development, providing a two-year top-up programme leading to an honours degree

  • Placement:

The opportunity to undertake supervised work experience is a distinctive feature of courses in the School of Computing. This course offers an optional 16-week paid placement during the summer between years 2 and 3. Placements have been carried out at high-profile companies like BT and IBM as well as with smaller local software houses and IT support providers.
Students who have gained supervised work experience as part of their course have a definite advantage in the jobs market when it comes to applying for graduate positions

  • Career Opportunities:
