Physical activity as a medium for health improvement in the wider population is also addressed in healthy individuals, and those with a range of pathologies. The principles of exercise consultation, prescription and programming are developed for a range of clients from the beginner exerciser to the elite athlete. Critical analysis and research skills are key themes throughout the course, culminating in the honours research project, which provides a hands-on practical research experience.
A unique part of the course is the work placement undertaken in year 3 where you will acquire a portfolio of learning experiences from a variety of areas, for example adult fitness testing, exercise for specific groups (children, healthy adults, diabetics, etc), event organisation, sports coaching or lifestyle advice.
The course is taught within the Faculty of Health and Social Care building which has exceptional teaching facilities including a human performance laboratory that houses a sophisticated three dimensional motion analysis system and other state-of-the-art exercise testing equipment. Garthdee is also the location for the £11 million RGU: SPORT where separate modules in exercise, conditioning and sports centre operations are delivered.
