Wendy Geddes
// Higher Communication // Bachelors degree in Adult Nursing

Wendy worked as an auxiliary nurse for eight years before starting her degree as she didn't have the qualifications needed. She said, 'While I was working as an auxiliary nurse at ARI, I achieved my SVQ in care level 3 with the help and support of my mentor staff nurse Rebecca Duncan, and the SVQ coordinators Katrina Whittingham and Lynn Sutherland.
'I gained my SVQ certificate and to achieve the required qualifications to commence my nurse training, Katrina and Lynn funded me through a Higher Communication course at ABERDEEN COLLEGE.
'I managed to save enough money to fund myself through my nursing course as I had a mortgage and bills to pay and I knew that the bursary I would receive wouldn't be enough. I also worked many extra shifts to assist with my funding.
'I would not have made it through my course without the help and support, both emotionally and financially, of my sister Sue Sutherland, my daughter Nicola Donald, my very dear friend and SVQ mentor Rebecca Duncan, and of course my personal tutor at university Martyn Main.
'Without all their support I would not have gained my nursing degree. I am very proud of what I've achieved over the past five years, from starting my SVQ, to finishing with a degree in adult nursing. Thanks to everyone who helped along the way!'
