Lyn Rennie
// Access to Nursing and Midwifery // Bachelors degree in Adult Nursing

Lyn Rennie (31), from Pitmedden near Ellon, graduated with a DipHE/B Adult Nursing from ROBERT GORDON UNIVERSITY, despite giving birth twice during her course.
Lyn had been out of the education system for 10 years. She worked as a trainee nursery nurse for two years, then changed course and worked as a printing assistant at ROBERT GORDON UNIVERSITY¿s Graphics and Printing department for two years. She then worked down south for a security company in a variety of positions which include control room operator, static security officer and as a patrol and response driver going to various sites locking and alarming premises alongside attending alarm activations at different sites.
Lyn then decided to pursue a career in nursing. As she did not have the necessary entry qualifications to go straight to university, she went to ABERDEEN COLLEGE and completed the Access to Nursing programme.
Lyn is mum to Gordon (5), Lochlan (2) and Cerys whose is eight weeks old. She said, `I fell pregnant with Lochlan during my second year at university. Luckily, I had already completed all the academic part of my course and just had my placement left to carry out.¿
Having completed this and starting her third year, Lyn made new friends and continued to enjoy her course. However just before starting her final placement she discovered she was pregnant again.
Lyn continues, `Thankfully, I managed to complete my course before the arrival of my daughter, Cerys. I can still remember, during my first few weeks at university, lecturing staff saying that if someone fell pregnant not to be too worried as they could still complete the course. My first thought at that time had been that that wouldn¿t be me, yet here I am three and a half years later with two more children than when I started!
`In all honesty though the academic staff have been my inspiration and motivation when I thought I couldn't complete the course. Also my family were a great help with the children, taking them to, and picking them up from nursery, while I fulfilled my placement commitments. I¿m looking forward to things not being too hectic from now on and I hope to work in the nursing profession part-time in the future and spend more time with my family.¿
