Gary Cornes

Gary comes originally from Glasgow but moved up to the North-east 12 years ago with his family, first to Peterhead before finally settling in Aberdeen. When he left school he opted for an apprenticeship in mechanical engineering but when he was made redundant a number of years later, he decided to go back to further his education.

He decided to study HND Legal Studies at ABERDEEN COLLEGE which is a 2+2 course leading directly into third year of a Law and Management degree at RGU. A far cry from mechanical engineering but Gary is convinced that he can combine both areas by specialising on the legal contract side and the industrial environment.

He said, "The apprenticeship was definitely the right thing to do at the time. There was no way I was ready to give the commitment that's required to study law. Now that I'm a bit older - and wiser, I know I have to get on and knuckle down to some hard work."

"I really enjoyed my time at the college and I'm enjoying RGU. It's taken a bit of adjustment but there is extra support for direct entry students, so things are going well. My tutors at college were great and I can't thank them enough."
