New courses at Aberdeen College address local job losses
// Tuesday 24 March 2009
ABERDEEN COLLEGE is to deliver tailored employment courses from Inverurie Fire Station.
With the recent announcement of the closure of Inverurie Paper Mill and the loss of local jobs, ABERDEEN COLLEGE is offering two brand new courses aimed at developing the employment skills of those who have been affected by redundancy or who may be facing uncertainty in relation to future employment.
The New Horizons: Developing Skills for Employment course focuses on CV writing, interview techniques, setting personal goals and developing internet and email skills in order to seek employment, while the New Horizons: Working for Yourself course aims to target those who wish to use redundancy or unemployment as an opportunity to start up a business. The Working for Yourself course provides an opportunity to explore enterprising ideas and gain an understanding of what is required to start, maintain and grow a business, focusing on areas including developing a business plan, accounting and identifying sources of support and funding.
The ten-week courses both begin in April and will be delivered at Inverurie Fire Station by ABERDEEN COLLEGE lecturing staff. These facilities are available to the College through the partnership established last year with Grampian Fire and Rescue Service, which has proved highly successful in helping the College to meet the needs of the communities that it serves.
Sandra Walker, Associate Principal from ABERDEEN COLLEGE said: "The College has developed these courses in response to job losses at Inverurie Paper Mill, and we are aiming to provide people with the skills and knowledge necessary to get back into employment or start up their own business."
In addition to these new courses, ABERDEEN COLLEGE will also be offering a range of Computing courses in Inverurie Fire Station in April, to help support continuing employment in the local area.
